Frequently Asked Questions

How does BeatBuddy work?

BeatBuddy connects to your Spotify account to analyze your music listening habits and provides insightful visualizations and tailored recommendations.

Is BeatBuddy free?

Yes, BeatBuddy is completely free to use. If you enjoy the app, consider buying me a coffee!

Is BeatBuddy secure?

Yes, it's secure. You connect directly to your Spotify account, allowing Spotify to share your data with BeatBuddy. We don't store your Spotify credentials.

I'm surprised by the results. Are they accurate?

Absolutely! BeatBuddy analyzes your current listening habits and compares them with your long-term trends to provide accurate insights.

How do the recommendation sliders work?

The sliders allow you to set "target" values for different musical attributes, such as danceability, energy, populairy, etc,.. For example, if you set the danceability slider to 100%, we request Spotify to provide recommendations with ideally 100% danceability. It acts like a target for Spotify's recommendation algorithm.

However, please note that extreme adjustments, such as setting popularity to 100% and danceability to 0%, might not always find exact matches within Spotify's library. In such cases, we aim to provide songs that are as close as possible to your preferences.

Why are there no (or few) results in my insights?

If you listen in Private Mode, those songs won't show up. Also, for new Spotify accounts, it can take one to two weeks for for Spotify to update their information.

Understanding "Current" vs. "All-Time"

"Current" refers to the tracks you have listened to in the past four weeks, approximately. In contrast, "All-Time" refers the entire range of your listening history since you created your Spotify account.
